Kuril lake

A journey to the realm of bears and sockeye salmon

Kuril lake is located in the area of South Kamchatka Reserve named after T. Shpilenok and is included in the List of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It is the deepest lake which has the largest volume of water and it is the second largest fresh lake in Kamchatka.

We provide both one-day and multi-day helicopter tours to the area. If the weather conditions during the flight are fine, it is possible to observe Vilyuchinsky, Mutnovsky, Osacha, Hodutka and Opala volcanoes which are most liked by tourists.

The lake has the largest breeding ground for sockeye salmon in the world, rare and precious types of fish and other animals. Thanks to unique conditions on the lake shore, it is possible to observe brown bears in their natural habitat. Brown bear is considered one of the symbols of Kamchatka.

It is possible to land on Klyuchevoe lake shore near Ksudach volcano on the way back and swim in the hot springs of Hodutka.

Hangar is an active volcano in the centre of Kamchatka. The last eruption happened 500 years ago. The crater of Hangar is filled with water, forming a picturesque lake 150 metres deep. Hangar slopes is rich for red obsidians (volcanic glass) with unordinary patterns.

As part of the helicopter tour, you can visit Timon hot springs which are a natural wonder located along both shores of Pad' Timonovskaya river.

Kamchatka is an ideal place for sea mammals watching. More than 14% of territory is reserve. "Komandorsky", the biggest sea reserve in Russia is located on Commander Islands which are included in Kamchatka region. Its waters welcome most of cetaceans that exist on our planet. There are 7 types of pinnipeds in Kamchatka: ringed seal, larga seal, walrus, bearded seal, Steller sea lion, Stejneger seal, Northern fur seal.

Kamchatka and Commander Islands waters and coastlines are very attractive to sea mammals due to their unique food conditions (cold severe waters around the peninsula are rich for fish, cephalopods, microorganisms and marine vegetation) and microclimate.

Kamchatka coastline is an ideal feed base for cetaceans. Grey whale, sperm whale, humpback whale, Berardius bairdii and orca migrate here.

Kamchatka peninsula looks like a rushing fish on space shots. The peninsula is washed by Bering Sea and Pacific Ocean in the east and Okhotsk Sea in the west. There are about 500 types of fish in the waters around Kamchatka.

Flounder, green perch, small halibut and Asiatic trout fishing 15 metres deep in the water with sand bottom is very calm and does not require any prior preparation. Trophy deep-sea rockfish and big halibut fishing is done 15-50 metres deep in the water above the riffs. Deep-sea fishing is an adventure for dedicated and passionate fishermen. It requires a lot of patience and self-giving. In the end, rich Kamchatka waters will reward you with a great catch.

You can experience sea fishing from comfortable boats from May to October. The routes lie across Avacha Bay, as well as along Pacific coastline, to the south and to the north of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy.

June to end-September is the best time for salmon fishing in the rivers of Kamchatka. However, there is no "dead" season for local fishermen. May to December is the time when chinook salmon, red salmon, chum salmon, coho salmon, pink salmon, rainbow trout and other unique breeds get back from the ocean, returning to their river homes.

Klyuchevskaya group of volcanoes includes 14 volcanoes in total: 4 active and 10 dormant volcanoes. This area has seen astonishing and dramatic natural spectacles, including the most powerful volcanic eruptions of the last century. Klyuchevskaya Sopka which is the highest active volcano in Eurasia erupts fairly regularly.

There is Dead Forest at the foot of Tolbachik volcano. Nearby, there is a chain of three cinder cones of Northern Breakthrough from 150 to 330 metres high running north-west along Tolbachik dale. The present landscape of the territory is the result of Big Tolbachik Fissure Eruption in 1975-1976.

There is Shiveluch volcano nearby Klyuchevskaya Sopka. It throws ash belches from 3 to 5 kilometres high which severely disrupts aircraft routes, making them change their direction.

If you are in "The Valley of Seven Giants" in good weather, you can observe seven volcanoes: Ushkovsky, Krestovsky, Klyuchevskaya Sopka, Stone volcano, Sharp Tolbachik, Flat Tolbachik and Oval Ziminoy volcano.

Avachinsky volcano

A tour to "home" volcanoes

Avachinsky is an active volcano. The last eruption happened here in 1991. Avachinsky is included in the group of so-called "home" volcanoes. A route to this volcano is among the classic and most favorite ones. During the helicopter tour it is possible to comfortably observe all 5 "home" volcanoes together with their craters.

You can use a convenient path to climb the volcano accompanied by an experienced guide. You are also able to observe various volcanic activity along the way, as well as the crater of an active volcano. There is a panorama of the Pacific ocean and Nalychevskaya valley observed from the top of Avachinsky volcano.

Ancient glaciers on the slopes never melt. Although the foot of Avachinsky volcano has fairly severe conditions, there is a colony of Bering gopher living there. They are not afraid of people and can be hand fed. For extreme sport lovers, Avachinsky volcano has perfect conditions for skiing, snowboarding and snowmobiling in the spring and winter time.

Mutnovsky volcano has several cones and a very diverse landscape. There are high-temperature water boilers, gas jet outputs, picturesque Mutnovsky glacier, mud boilers and active fumaroles surrounded with volcanic sulfur. There is Dangerous Canyon at the foot of Mutnovsky volcano and a self-titled 90-metre waterfall, where you can feel the earth tremors if standing right under it.

Walking across Gorely volcano is like a journey to a different planet. The volcano foot is covered with volcanic soil, that's why the landscape looks just like the one on Mars. Acid lakes in volcanic craters are another "space" sight. Gorely is also famous for its lava caves.

The Valley of Geysers, located in Kronotsky Reserve, is considered the largest geyser field in the world. Geysers are truly unique natural phenomena. They need special conditions, so they are not typical for every volcanic area.

A hundred square kilometres in size, Uzon volcano caldera is considered one of the largest in Kamchatka.

The Valley of Geysers is a volcanic canyon which is 3 kilometers wide and 4 kilometres long. There are dozens of geysers and hot springs in this fairly small area. The Valley of Geysers is a protected area. Helicopter tour to the Valley of Geysers also includes visiting Uzon volcano caldera.

There are numerous natural wonders. In caldera area fumaroles exist side to side with green groves and wild tundras, while swamps are close to acid volcanic lakes where weed and bacteria comfortably inhabit boiling poisonous fluid.
